The Weekend is a world renowned artist and didn’t get nominated for any Grammy Awards and he told everyone just how upset he was. The Weekend gets nothing!
- What are the Grammy Awards?
- Why did The Weekend get angry?
The Grammy Awards are a ceremony held in the United States where a series of awards are given out to the winners of incredible music artists and are presented by National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences or the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.
The Grammy has some esteemed Awards up for grabs but one of the top Awards to receive is the ‘Album of the Year’ which is like the ‘Best Picture’ at the Oscars. The ‘Album of the Year’ also recognises each track separately and all of the background sounds and the production of the album.
The Weekend took to Twitter after the Grammy’s to express his feelings and how he felt cheated by the Award ceremony. The R&B artist was not nominated for any awards even though he took 2020 by storm and had a record-breaking year.
He tweeted saying, “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…”

He took being nominated very personally as he had achieved such an amazing year as an artist. The Weekend, (Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) not getting nominated for anything was said to be the biggest shock in the nomination period. The R&B album ‘After Hours’ was the first ever album with the biggest streaming week. ‘Blinding Lights’ was ‘THE’ dance song of TikTok in 2020 as it became a challenge and everyone joined it. Blinding Lights was one of the top songs of the year and it was the longest-running top 5 single in Billboard’s Hot 100 list.
The Weekend wasn’t the only one to express his feelings of the Grammys, Nicki also took to Twitter to explain how she got ‘snubbed’ a few years ago as she was not nominated either even though she had some of the top music.
“Never forget the Grammys didn’t give me my best new artist award when I had 7 songs simultaneously charting on billboard & bigger first week than any female rapper in the last decade- went on to inspire a generation. They gave it to the white man Bon Ive.r”

The Weekend took to Twitter to express his feelings and it just proved that he wasn’t the only one. Is there something that needs to be done?
