Spotify has released “Wrapped” its annual musical round up which gives insights into the music choices from the previous year to both individual users and the platform as a whole.

The 2020 Wrapped round up was launched via an announcement on Twitter where the online music streaming platform simply tweeted #2020Wrapped is here.

Spotify’s Wrapped gives users insight into their listening habits of the last year with some loving being able to review their past year of music and some admitting embarrassment about the guilty pleasure of their private music choices.

The platform’s review gives users information on their top songs of the year, their top artists of the year, top genres, minutes listened, number of new artists they listened to and much, much more. User then took to social media platforms to share their Wrapped bundle to their followers.

In the wake of the coronavirus crisis, Spotify also added “one song helped you get through it all.”, which was a nice touch to help listeners realise how important music had been in supporting them through 2020.

However, Wrapped becomes even more interesting with the announcement in a new report confirming that it was developed for Spotify by an intern in only three months.

The intern, Jewel Ham, who is also an independent artist, took to Twitter to share his elation at the news, “I really invented the Spotify wrapped story concept as an intern project in 2019 and they haven’t looked back since LMAO.”

In information published by Forbes in 2019, “more than 60 million users engaged with the in-app story experience” in a few weeks, and it was mentioned, and hash tagged on Twitter over 1.2 million times.

“To clarify,” Ham wrote in a subsequent tweet, “for those of y’all unfamiliar with #SpotifyWrapped – it used to be an email and a playlist. since 2019, it has become an interactive user experience and that right there – was my idea!”
